Minimizing our Footprint

At Aspire Dental Centre, we are fortunate to have a team that is conscious of the impact we have on the environment.  Due to the nature of our industry, there are only so many things in our control that we can do to maintain proper protocol, while being mindful of the waste leaving our clinic.  With that being said, we are proud to share that our clinic participates in two programs being offered by a world-wide company, TerraCycle.

The first program is the Nitrile and Latex Gloves Zero Waste Box.  On average in our clinics throw out 12,000 individual gloves every single month.  Instead of discarding these gloves to go to a landfill, we have purchased the Zero Waste Boxes specifically for the Nitrile gloves we utilize.  The collected waste is mechanically and/or manually separated and undergoes extrusion and pelletization to be molded into new recycled plastic products.  This helps us to safely recycle the 144,000 gloves we use annually.

The second program we participate in is the Oral Care Waste and Packaging - Zero Waste Box.  The box is situated in our reception area and is open for public use.  How it works is that anyone can bring in their toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, oral products outer packaging and floss containers and deposit them in the provided receptacle.  The collected waste is sorted and hydropulped to separate out coatings like wax and plastics.  The separated fiber will be recycled into new paper products or composted if recycling is not possible.  The resulting plastics will be recycled into plastic polymers.

TerraCycle is a global leader in recycling typically non-recyclable waste and offers a range of free programs that are funded by conscientious companies, as well as recycling solutions available for purchase for almost every form of waste.  Further information on their programs can be found at www.terracycle.ca.  Aspire Dental Centre is proud to participate in such an important movement towards environmental change.
